Ode to Tom

A poem

by Lindsay

Oh dearest Tom, of the comfy shoes,
your soft material has gotten me through
the hardest walking of my life
(except perhaps the camping trip that cause me so much strife!)

I cannot imagine what my life would be
if you were to fall apart on me
and expose my tippy toes to the sun
into a ratty pair of flip flops you would become

To buy a new pair means blisters galore
calluses and corns and too many sores
I don't have time for a 'getting to know you'
so for now, my dear you must simply do.

Then in Maastricht you will stay, I promise you rest
and I'll fly home and sincerely do my best
to find another pair as faithful as you
oh, Tom of the wonderful, comfortable shoes.
